DEFINITIONS: Acknowledgement: The act of admitting the existence of an agreement and acknowledging a signature to a document for purposes of recordation. Affidavit: A document that contains a statement, made under oath or affirmation, signed by the affiant and a jurat (certificate) signed and sealed by a Notary. Jurat: Latin. "To Swear" the certificate signed and sealed by the notary at the end of a document, near the "sworn and subscribed to:" language. Oath: A solemn pledge or promise with reference to a Supreme Being and the truth of statements. Power of Attorney: A document by which a person autdorizes another (attorney in fact) to act on his behalf. §§.: Latin. Scilicet.: "in particular, namely" Printed near the venue (place of the notarization) of a certificate of acknowledgement or any other notarial certificate. L.S.: Latin. Locus Sigilli.: Location of the seal; Indicates where notary should place seal! |
